What You Need

AeroPress · Paper filter · 15 g coffee beans · Grinder · Scale · Kettle · Timer · Sturdy mug · Stirrer

Step-by-Step Recipe

1. Rinse and Assemble

Place a paper filter in the cap, rinse it with hot water and attach the cap. Set the AeroPress upright on a sturdy mug and preheat the chamber and mug.

2. Grind

Grind 15 g of coffee medium-fine, a little finer than many pour-over starting points.

3. Add the Coffee

Add the ground coffee to the chamber and gently shake to level it.

4. Wet and Stir

Start the timer, add 60 g of water at 90–93°C and stir gently for about 5 seconds to wet all the grounds.

5. Fill

Add the remaining water to reach 240 g total by about 0:45. Insert the plunger about 1 cm to create a seal and reduce dripping.

6. Steep

Let the coffee steep until 1:30.

7. Press

Press slowly and steadily for about 30–45 seconds. Finish around 2:00–2:30 and stop when you first hear air moving through the coffee bed.

8. Stir and Taste

Remove the AeroPress, gently stir the finished coffee and taste it as it cools slightly.

What You’re Looking For

Look for a smooth, juicy and balanced cup with moderate body. The press should feel steady; excessive resistance is a sign that the grind may be too fine.

Adjust Your Brew

The cup tastes sour, thin or underdeveloped → Grind slightly finer or raise the water temperature by 1–2°C.

The cup tastes bitter, dry or heavy → Grind slightly coarser or lower the water temperature by 1–2°C.

The plunger is very hard to press → Grind coarser and keep the press slow and steady.

The cup tastes balanced but too strong → Add a little hot water after pressing.

The cup tastes too light → Use a little less water or slightly increase the coffee dose.

Change one variable at a time.
